Bridgeport, NJ – The Spirit Auto Center Speedway quarter mile will present the first racing of the 2022 season at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park with the three day, four race Slingshot World Championships for the All Star and Junior Slingshots.

The action starts with a full show of All Star and Junior Slingshots on Friday evening with practice starting at 6:30pm.

Two complete shows will be run on Saturday in addition to practice sessions for both the 600 and 270 Micro Sprints. Qualifying for the first show will begin immediately following the 1pm practice. At the conclusion of the afternoon program, time will be taken to prepare the track for the evening events. Practice will begin at 6:30pm with qualifying to immediately follow. Micro sprint practice sessions will be run throughout both programs.

Sunday’s action will get underway following the 1pm practice session.

This event marks the first for the Junior Slingshots in the Garden State, following approval by the New Jersey State Police which came in time for this division to be included in the Slingshot World Series at Spirit Speedway. Junior competition is offered for drivers who are at least ten years old.

The Slingshot was developed by Richie Tobias in 1999. The Slingshot is meant to be a downsized version of a stock car with a 58 inch wheel base, four coil suspension and powered by Briggs and Stratton V-Twin engine.
Tobias wanted to create an entry-level race car that was affordable.

Many of today’s weekend competitors in other divisions are “graduates” of Slingshot competition like Damon Paul, Joe Toth, Ryan Smith and Louden Reimert to name just a few.

Brett Bieber and Sam Neary, who captured multiple Slingshot titles during the 2021 season, are expected to compete in the World Series weekend in addition to Amanda Angstadt and Ryan Davey who are past Spirit Auto Center Speedway champions.
