Bridgeport, NJ – The Spirit Auto Center Speedway ran the second hand of the 2021 Poker Series on Sunday. It was a mix of old faces and new as the 600 and 270 Micro Sprints and All Star Slingshots competed in the Hyper Racing EVO Injection sponsored event.
Eddie Strada has won a lot of races in micro sprint competition but had never before won a race on the Bridgeport quarter mile. That all changed on Sunday when Strada won the twenty-five lap feature event for the Hyper Racing EVO Injection 600s. .
Colin White and Strada led the field to the start and it quickly became apparent that the race for the lead was going to be contested in ernest. The two drivers swapped the lead back and forth. There were four lead changes with the first five laps alone. This back and forth battle continued between Strada and White through the halfway mark.
With ten laps to go, Kenny Miller III entered the race for the lead while Steven Snyder, Jr., White and Connor Gross battled in the top five.
Strada captured the victory, the $1,000 payday and an Ace for his Poker Series hand. Miller finished second followed by Snyder, White and Gross. Tim Buckwalter converted a provisional start into a sixth place finish in the Greth No. 71, racing from his twenty-fifth place start. Billy Koch recovered from an early race incident to finish seventh followed by Bobby Butler, Luke Thomas and PJ Williams.
It had been a long time since Jason Swavely won on the Bridgeport quarter mile but that all changed when Swavely raced the victory in the 270 Micro Sprint feature.
Nick Walton led the race until lap seventeen when Swavely completed the pass for the win. The battle was first between Walton and Alex Swift but Swavely quickly moved into second and then challenged the leader.
Swavely took the win over Walton, Swift, Ken Andreas and Anthony Yerger.
Cody Kline drew the pole for the All Star Slingshot feature and went on to lead every lap from the green to the checkered. Brett Bieber, who already has an Ace for the 2021 Poker Series, raced Amanda Angstadt for second but was unable to track down Kline to challenge for the win. Angstadt finished third followed by Ryan Davey and Tomas Mowery.
The Xcel 600 feature event was won by David Burns.
