Bridgeport, NJ – For the second consecutive week, Spirit Speedway has been forced to cancel its 2019 season opener. Thunderstorms and rain predicted to move into the area mid afternoon and lasting through the night, led the early cancellation Friday morning.

“I swear this is an exact repeat of last Friday,” offered track manager Danny Serrano. “There’s not much more we can do. We’re all pretty bummed out.”

Spirit’s management team wanted to be proactive with cancellation of the first two events, so they have added a rain date for next Friday’s racing program. “In the event of a third rainout, we will run next Sunday to get the season started,” Serrano pointed out. “We have a couple rain dates scheduled later in the season, but I don’t think anyone planned on raining out this often this early. We hope to race next Friday as planned. However, if it’s a repeat of today we will run on Sunday at 6pm. I just would like to thank all the drivers, owners, and sponsors that have been reaching out to support the 1/4 mile program.”
