Bridgeport, NJ – Damon Paul picked up his second Spirit Speedway victory in the Hyper Racing/EVO Injection 600 Micro Sprint action on Friday night while Logan Diehl and Jason Kraycirik earned their first wins of the season in the 270 Micro Sprint and All Star Slingshot features, respectively.

Polesitter, Gary Borzowski led the field of 600s through the first five laps of the feature event with pressure coming from second place competitor, Tyler Devault.  DeVault’s run ended early and former track champion, Matt Smith quickly moved up to second to challenge the leader.  Paul, Mike Butler and Joey Amantea were mixing things up in the top five when Smith came away with the lead on the tenth circuit.

Smith led through lap fifteen trailed by Paul, Amantea, Mike Butler and Brandon Pavel.

With the laps counting down, the battle up front was heating up.  Smith didn’t have one challenger but three by the name of Paul, Amantea and Butler, running inside and outside and wherever they could find room.

On lap seventeen, Paul challenged for the lead and he and Smith raced side by side.  Paul took control on a lap eighteen restart and immediately began to put some distance between himself and his nearest competition.  Second was up for grabs as the field came to the finish line.  Paul took the win – his second in a row – with Mike Butler crossing the line in second.  Butler was debuting a new Hyper chassis and was extremely pleased with its maiden voyage.  Amantea finished third followed by Smith and Pavel.  Pavel held off the last lap challenge of Mike Rutherford who finished sixth followed by PJ Williams who came from the consi to finish seventh.  Bobby Butler finished eighth, running a second No. 4 followed by Nick Sapp and Jim Tippin.

“I really could run anywhere on the track,” Paul stated.  “None of this would be possible without my dad, Casey Boyer, John Bockhorn, Hyper Racing/EVO Injection, Dave Orange Race Engines and everyone else who helps out!”  “Hats off to Doug Rose for making this place super badass,” Paul added.

Logan Diehl was one very happy feature winner at the end of the twenty lap 270 Micro feature.  Diehl led from the green to the checkered to capture his first win of the season in a brand new RTS chassis.  Diehl acknowledged the efforts of the late Danny Serrano in Victory Lane.  “Danny Serrano put together one hell of a track here,” Diehl exclaimed,  “My car was good to go everywhere.  The car has never been this good!”

Opening night winner, Nick Skias came from deep in the starting line-up to finish second followed by reigning champion, Alex Swift, Nick Walton and Lee Reinhardt.  2019 Rookie Champion, Shea Wills finished sixth followed by Thomas Rinck, Tyler Grau, Johnny Trendler and Ken Andreas.

Jason Kraycirik took the lead from Ryan Davey after two laps and then went on to capture his first All Star Slingshot victory.  After a rough go last season, Kraycirk was thrilled to pick up the win.

Michael Beckett continues to be in the thick of the competition, finishing third with Ashely Therien winning the battle with Dave Morrell for fourth.

Spirit Speedway action switches to Sunday next weekend with the running of the first Poker Series event.  The 600 and 270 Micro Sprints and Slingshots will be joined by the Xcel 600 Modifieds for this event which will get underway at 6pm.
