Slingshot Saturday ‘Matinees’ & Small Car Super Bowl, & Track Reconfiguration New This Year To 1/4 mile

Bridgeport, NJ – Spirit Speedway is gearing up for another stellar season as part of the Bridgeport Motorsports Park in South Jersey.  Spirit’s Friday night program has grown leaps and bounds over the past few seasons and 2020 looks to be no different for the newly configured racey quarter-mile facility.  The 3/8 mile isn’t the only track receiving a makeover; The 1/4 mile has been reshaped and has had progressive banking added to the turns to add even more small car excitement week in and week out.

Practice day will start off the season on Saturday, March 21 as the quarter-mile have a test and tune day in conjunction with the all new Bridgeport Speedway as well.   Race teams can get NJSP safety inspected on practice day or prior by contacting inspectors Ed Barber (609-820-3160) or Tom Landwher (856-625-8135).  The chase for the championship starts on April 10 and concludes on September 11.

The popular Poker Series will return with a 5-race Sunday schedule during the 2020 campaign. The 600 wingless micros, 270 winged micros, Slingshots, and Xcel Modifieds will compete for the best overall hand on April 19, May 3, June 28, July 26, and August 30.

The 4th Annual Skyscraper returns in early October for mega pay days for both the 600 and 270 micro sprints.  The three-day fall-classic kicks off Oct 2 thru Oct 4.  Car counts, purses, contingencies, sponsors and campers have increased each and every year for the Skyscraper.

There will be two ‘Combo’ shows between Spirit & Bridgeport Speedways this Spring.  The ‘Combo’ shows will see the 1/4 mile and the 3/8 mile both in action on the same night.  The micros and slingshots will race on the same night as the MASS 305 sprints, 602 Sportsman, Street Stocks, and SpeedSTRs on May 30 and June 13.

Hyper 600 Speedweek will now start in New Jersey at Spirit Speedway.  The 5-race point series kick off on Monday, August 3 featuring the 600s and 270 micro sprints.  The much anticipated week-long series of races always draw record-shattering car counts along with wheel to wheel racing action.

A new event dubbed as the ‘Small Car Super Bowl’ will take place during the final weekend of October.  This two-day show will feature a multitude of divisions that include 600, 270, 250, 125 micro sprints, slingshots, xcel mods, stage-1 modifieds, mini late models, mod lites, and legends.

The Tobias Slingshots will see action in a record amount of events in 2020.  The stars and cars of the division will see Friday, Saturday, and Sunday action spread throughout the season.  New for this season, the Slingers will star in a series of Saturday ‘matinees’.  In an effort to grow the division and give it more exposure, the slingshots will compete on several late Saturday afternoon shows.  “We anticipate our heat races to start around 4pm with a break where we’ll run big car hot laps, then come back to the 1/4 mile for the feature event,” offered track manager Danny Serrano.  “The feature will kickoff off our Saturday racing programs when the slingshots are on the schedule.  The participants and race teams will then be welcomed to stay for the full Saturday night racing show at no extra charge,” Serrano added.  There are several big car teams that have crew members or kids that race slingshots and now they can all race on the same night which is a bonus.
